Just unreal... I am on a plane again...
After an all-too-brief sojourn at home, I'm heading to Cleveland again. I'm very excited to see the group again... and to see what our esteemed director thinks of the show he staged but hasn't seen in a month!
Cleveland promises to be a lot more welcoming in the autumn than it was in the rainy, snowy, overcast March and April of my last visit. I'm looking forward to having more chances to explore the city, since I'm only in Richard III... We run in true rep with Sweeney Todd... so I'll have 2-3 free days a week!
Last night was my last at home for a while, so normally, I would have cooked something elaborate and celebratory... but Mother Nature had other ideas... It was in the 90s with absolutely oppressive humidity. So we decided that, since the tomatoes are still in full cry - Green Zebras, Black Brandywines, and...

...the miraculous "Kiesels" (big, meaty Czech beauties from seeds given to us by the legendary chef and writer, Marcia Kiesel), another Caprese was in order.

There is a part of me that considers the Caprese perfect food: at-their-peak homegrown tomatoes, basil from the garden, Teitel Bros. soft, soft, fresh mozzarella along with Edda EVOO, sprinkled liberally with coarse sea salt... with a crisp white wine and a crunchy, yeasty baguette.

I think this actually qualifies for elaborate and celebratory!
I'm not a big believer in variations when it comes to Caprese... tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, EVOO, and salt... though the new bacon dressing variation does have me intrigued!
Cleveland, here I come!!!
