As I was settling in for my bus ride from Storrs CT to NYC last week, I had one of those moments. Contrary to popular belief, an actor's life is not always easy and fun. We're unemployed far more than we're employed (and I'm one of the ones who's lucky enough to work a lot), we don't take vacations because that just seems like more unemployment, we have to live away from home constantly, our "co-workers" change constantly (OK... that can also be a blessing!), and when you're a stage actor, even constant employment doesn't really represent a living wage. But if you love it... there's no better life.
And THAT was the moment I had... it was a glorious late summer day, I was on a bus going home because I was given the gift of a surprise week off, and as I rode along... all I could think about was "What other life gives you these kinds of moments? I'm riding through dappled sunshine... in the woods... seeing a part of the U.S. I've never seen before. I like my apartment. I like the cast. I like the play. I'm being paid to do what I love. Life hardly ever gets any better...
And we drove past lots of farm stands... and I started to get very excited about the change in seasons... Yes, I love the abundance of the summer garden... but my mind really starts to race when we move into Fall!
Summer is all about picking and plating... perfect things simply presented. But I LOVE to cook, and when the weather starts to cool, it's time to turn on the stove and heat up the oven.
So... I can't wait to start sending new Fall things out to you. Stay tuned.
