I had this meatball craving. But I wasn't in a pasta frame of mind.
So I thought a little experiment was in order.
I took about 3/4 lb. ground beef, mixed it with a panade made of stale baguette, milk, finely minced onions, and garlic. I flavored it with a bit of sriracha, soy sauce, cayenne, a little salt, some chopped scallions, and a drop of sesame oil. I rolled these into small meatballs, and sautéed them in a bit of canola oil...
The dipping sauce consisted of soy, sesame oil, chicken broth, sherry, scallions, microplaned ginger and garlic, sesame seeds, and sriracha. In a sauté pan, I heated 2T oil, sliced scallions, sesame seeds, and ginger... then added yesterday's brown rice.

I realize there's probably nothing remotely authentic about this dish, but it satisfied the craving perfectly... and was just plain fun to eat! And of course, as everyone around us succumbs to flu and the cold, it never hurts to overdose on garlic, ginger, and hot peppers!
